William Merritt Chase, Alice with Wolfhound, c. 1898
- Left: An early German Shepherd Dog with what appears to be wavy hair - the dog’s name is Rex, which is commonly used to describe animals with curled hair. (Maybe not, but this is what I see.)
- Right: Belgian Shepherd Laekenois, a subdivision of the related Belgian dog, distinguished by this curled hair type.

English Bulldog, date unknown. (Easier to believe they were used in the creation of the American Pit Bull Terrier when you see their previous construction! A dog that can work, run, function, breathe!)
